“My first exposure to eye care was in junior high school, when I started wearing glasses. From my first visit, my experiences at the optometrist’s office were fascinating to me, and they piqued my interest. Part of what interested me was that it was a meaningful profession. By high school, I knew I wanted to help people and have a positive impact on their lives.
“Today, with decades of experience caring for people’s vision, I’m still passionate about what I do. And I’m equally passionate about doing it to the very highest standards. In fact, continuous advancement and growth as an eye care professional are important to me. I have never forgotten, and never will, that I’m in the business of caring for people. The only thing that pleases me more than the advances I’ve witnessed in eye care over the years is the advances we are making now and will make tomorrow. Ultimately, they will improve my ability to protect people’s eyes while improving their vision, which is what I find rewarding.
“At the same time, I enjoy getting to know people, which is important to excellent vision care. Nothing is more important than communication, from listening carefully to your issues and concerns to speaking with you openly, honestly and with genuine compassion. This is the key to providing you the informed, detailed and focused eye care you deserve.”
When not delivering exceptional eye care to the citizens of Iowa, Dr. Meehan enjoys getting out and about by hiking, flying, traveling and tinkering with cars.
Bradley E. Schwartz, OD
Doctor of Optometry: Illinois College of Optometry, Chicago, IL
Bachelor of Science: Biology, Wartburg College, Waverly, IA
Member: American Optometric Association, Iowa Optometric Association, Upper Iowa Optometric Society, Secretary of the Decorah Lions Club, 2005 Lion of the Year
“I’ve known I wanted to be an optometrist since I was a teenager. I wanted so much to wear contact lenses, but I had a difficult time because of my allergies. My family optometrist really went out of his way to work with me and help me be successful with contacts. He was so diligent and caring that he became my inspiration for choosing optometry as my life’s work.
“And I definitely made the right choice. I always wanted a career that would let me help people and solve problems. But optometry has given me so much more. I’ve been able to get to know my patients and care for each of them as individuals, just as if they were members of my own family.
“I’ve devoted my career to achieving the highest level of skill in medical eye care. And I take every patient outcome personally. It’s what keeps me up at night. I believe it’s my responsibility to serve the visual needs of our community. It’s also a great privilege.”
Dr. Schwartz feels that his greatest professional accomplishment has been bringing excellent eye care to the residents of the Decorah region. In his free time, he enjoys coaching youth sports, running, camping and fishing.
